Let’s start with awards. Awards are always a good way to judge who’s good and who’s not. Not always of course but most times, when you do enough in an industry, you get recognized for it.
Then again, as far as comparisons go, a major challenge will be how to judge which of the awards are bigger since some of them happened within different time frames. Apart from the recognized ones, we’ll take closer looks at the awards won by each.
Yemi Alade: MTV African Music Awards, Best Female Artiste (2015, 2016). Best Performer, The Headies 2018. NBMA for Artiste of the Year-Female 2016. Best Female West Africa, AFRIMMA 2018.
Tiwa Savage: Most Promising Act, Dynamix All Youths Award 2011, Most Stylish Female Artiste. Fab Magazine Awards 2011. Best RnB Soul Song (Kele Kele Love), Afrotainment Museke Online Music Awards 2011. Female Musician of the Year, City People Entertainment Awards 2011.
Best Reggae/Dancehall Single (Girlie O remix), The Headies 2014. Best Collabo Song (Girlie O remix), COSON Song Awards 2015. Best African Act, MTV Europe Music Awards 2018.
Let’s move to International collaborations. Yemi Alade has collaborated with the likes of Kat Deluna, Rick Ross, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, among others.
Tiwa Savage too has had international collaborations with Omarion, Remy Ma, Young Paris, among others.
The two have been pitched against each other countless times like the Davido and Wizkid. While Tiwa Savage is often praised for her lines and songs, Yemi Alade has been at the receiving end of criticisms over her lyrics.
For this list, we’ll go with Tiwa Savage.
Agree? Disagree? Let’s hear it.
